Mornings

I am not a morning person. I don't think I ever have been or ever will be. But getting up in the morning to send Kyle off on the bus is beginning to grow on me (as is the 6am pot of fresh hot coffee). The waking up part still thoroughly sucks, especially today since I woke up with a raging headache. (My own fault this time. I tried to stick my head out a window that slides up so that I could yell at the dogs, and I gracefully slammed my head into the metal edge along the bottom. Brilliant, I know.) So I'm up and in pain, but instead of my usual spot at the table, I decided to sit next to the window. Looking out, I watched as the dark blanket of night was overtaken by the birth of a new day. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day too. Maybe a little chilly. (It was 39 degrees out when Kyle decided he was going to stand outside and wait for the bus a whole ten minutes early! Also brilliant, I must admit.)

Anyway, this particular morning fascinated me. It's that time of year where the daylight hours are fairly comfortable, even if they require hoodies, long pants, and actual shoes.

Nights are cold. Not winter cold, but cold enough to admit that summer has left us for another year. This morning that seasonal change was evidenced by the frost on the overgrown grass in the field and the thick layer of fog that rose from the swamp behind us. With the sunrise as a backdrop, the foggy morning was incredible to see.
