I think I have read just about every book, article, webpage, and random quote that has ever been written about or by Bette Midler. I have no defense. I just love her. One book (which I won't name) was meant to be a biography and read more like a history of Hawaii than the history of a person's life. Some I barely remember, and some I only wish I could find somewhere other than our little two-story library in Oceanside. James Spada's The Divine Bette Midler was definitely one of those books. I was in high school when I first found it, and I think I checked it out from that library at least 25 separate times. At the time, it was my absolute definitive source on the life of The Divine Miss M.
I actually think it still is my go-to source. At least it would be if I could find it. It's also the source of some of my all-time favorite Bette pics. Plastic surgery or not, as she's aged, she's grown into her look. But there are several pictures in the book that I would like to find just to add to my scrapbook. (Yes, I still have a Bette scrapbook.... like I'm still 14.) Unfortunately all of the favorites I've found online were all on a website that doesn't allow right-click to save. *sigh* I need to find this book. If anyone sees it somewhere ever (for less than the $50 I found on amazon), let me know. I've even tried old used book stores to no avail. Regardless, it has to be a part of my catalogue someday.
I will not freak out...
